1994 Chevrolet
Silverado Ext Cab 1500 4WD Z71
You wont believe the story that goes with this truck,
I've read the paper work, compared the VIN and it's
still hard to believe !
In order to give an accurate account of how this truck
came to be in my possession,
and why that fact is unique and unusual, this story must
be told in multiple parts.
Part I - The Brother Connection
October 2010
If it wasn't for my brother, I would not
own this truck.
My brother called me about a 1986
Volkswagen Cabriolet he knew of which was a basket
case,
but it was being offered free for
picking it up in the Kansas City area. In one of
my previous lives,
I had had some experience with VWs, so I
thought what the heck, I'll pick this one up,
fix it and have a fun little topless
putter. I trailered it home, cleaned it
up, put it in my barn,
and started looking for the parts it
needed.
Part II - The Son Connection
August 2011
If it wasn't for my son, I would not own
this truck.
My son called one afternoon and said,
"hey Dad, I saw on an internet blog some guy has
a
94 Silverado that he wants to either
sell, or trade for VW parts. Are you interested in
trading that VW in the barn for it?"
I said maybe, lets take a look at the
truck. So we looked it over and thought,
well it's pretty rough, but if the guy
will make us a reasonable deal, then sure what the
heck!, after all, it's not just a truck,
its a truck that actually starts, runs,
and drives! the VW is a basket case that I really
haven't invested much in yet anyway.
So, we haggle back and forth for a week
or so, and finally settled on a deal for the
truck.
We brought the truck home and two days
later a tow truck showed up and hauled the VW away.
Part III - The Discovery
September 2011
So I start the clean up on the truck,
standard procedure.
I have bought and sold a wide variety of
vehicles my entire life, so I am rather hardened to
the initial clean up of a
used project vehicle. I always know it's
going to be an unpleasant experience to some extent,
however,
this one exceeded my wildest
expectations. Long story short, the interior
pictures below are
AFTER I had spent 6 hours cleaning
it. These were filthy people!
When I arrived at the glove box, the
owners manual and papers contained,
were in surprisingly good condition,
considering the rest of the vehicle, and while looking
through
the papers, I came across several
receipts for warranty
work, battery replacement, etc... made out to
the owner of the
vehicle who at the time the receipts
were written was listed as a company by the name of Bio-Electronics
which on the face of it, seems
irrelevant... unless you are me.
Part IV - The Bio-Electronics
Connection
December 1994
I have said all that, to say this.
When I bought the Red
and
White 1994 Silverado I drove it to work the next
day to show my co-workers.
The CEO of the company I was working for
at that time came out to look at it and he said,
" I cant believe you bought this truck,
this is the exact kind of truck I've been looking to
buy."
Two weeks later he did buy a truck to be
used as his personal use company vehicle.
That guys name was Doug Dippert, the
company he and I worked for was Bio-Electronics,
and this is that very truck he went out
and bought two weeks after he saw mine.
I actually drove this truck and probably
put close to a thousand miles
on it back in 1995 hauling equipment in
it from time to time.
